This is the battle flag of Commodore Hazard Perry. The words come from those of Captain James Lawrence, who said them on June 1st, 1813, as he lay wounded on the USS Chesapeake. A few months later Commodore Perry flew this flag in a battle during which his ships captured a British squadron consisting of HMS Detroit, HMS Charlotte, and 4 smaller vessels. This the only time in history an entire squadron of the Royal Navy surrendered. Perry's flag is at the U.S. Naval Academy. This is an American made flag of our toughest, most durable and long-lasting nylon fabric, with solid brass grommets. You won't find nylon flags with higher tensile and tear strength; yet they fly very well in the wind. This flag has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, and high resistance to UV fading. The colors are deeper, brighter and last over time, due to the aniline dyeing process. This fabric has better wash-fastness and light-fastness than nylons of similar fabric construction.
There is a one inch double edge fold with four rows of stitching on the fly edge. It has 1 1/2 inch reinforced stitching vertically at the fly corners, and 3 1/2 inch reinforced hem stitching (horizontal) at top of bottom of the fly.
