Arkansas Flag
State of Arkansas Flag
You may be tempted to say 'AR' 'Kansas' but we don't we think we are french by leaving off the sound of the last letter! Why? Read this article "Why we don't say the final s in Arkansas" Interesting french derivation for the Ozarks "(Incidentally, the name Ozark comes from French aux Arcs, short for aux Arcansas. And the same native word that became Wichita in Kansas went with the Frenchified spelling Ouachita in Arkansas.)"
The Arkansas Flag has colors from the Union and Confederate flags. The 25 stars show that Arkansas was the 25th state to join the Union. The diamond shape represents it is the only state to produces diamonds. The top blue star commemorates the Confederacy. The other three stars have two meanings, to show it was once part of the United States, Spain, and France. The other meaning is that it was the third state formed from the Louisiana Purchase.
